Laab Notes Vol. 8

A Day In The Life of FilmLaab šŸŽ„

Time to pull back the curtain on what really is going on behind the scenes…

A Day In The Life of FilmLaab šŸŽ„

8:00 AM

On an average day, Mike, our COO, beats everyone into the office and usually gets there by 8-8:30 AM.

He is shortly followed by Miguel (his name is really Michael, but we call him Miguel because he just returned from a church service mission in Mexico), and then the rest of us funnel in afterward. The last person usually shows up around 9:30—we keep it casual.

9:30 AM

The team usually talks about the goals for the day. Walking through: What is everyone’s tasks? What projects do we need to finish editing? What script writing and concepting do we need to get started on? Where do we want to get lunch? The essentials.

Once the tasks are locked in, everyone gets after it. šŸ“ˆ

10:00 AM

Mike and I (Mitch) will usually go for a walk and scheme on the future of FilmLaab, and that’s where I’ll ask sensitive questions such as: ā€œWhen can we buy a production van?ā€ or ā€œI’ve got a sick idea for a new campaign, it’ll just take a week or two of our teams timeā€¦ā€ You know, the good but irrational creative guy stuff.

Mike is the money and ops guy, so he has to let me down easy with the ol’ ā€œMitch, you know I want a van more than anyone!ā€ Thank heavens for him keeping me in reality. But I will say, our big dreams have taken us pretty far in just 3 years. šŸ«±šŸ¼ā€šŸ«²šŸ½

12:00 PM

By 12, people usually take a lunch break in one of two ways. They either go get food and actually eat, or they boot up the gaming console of their choice, and everybody drops for a couple of rounds of Call of Duty.

Classic creatives… I know. But having some time to disconnect from the pressures of creative output and focus on playing a game makes our world go round.

Do you want to drop for a couple of rounds? Hit me with your gamer tag, and I’ll meet you on Rebirth Island.

1:00 PM - 5:30 PM

After our ā€œcreative resetā€ until about 530ish: our team is locked in knocking out edits, getting on client calls, building out concepts, and cracking jokes in between it all.

Our Days are Anything But Average… šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

We have a great team and are lucky to do what we do every day… because we LOVE what we do.

And while this may be what the average (and most obvious) day looks like, most days are anything but.

If you swing by the office, you’ll find that we generally have 2-3 productions weekly, either on location or on our cyc wall.

Our podcast department has a handful of podcasts recorded in our two recording studios on the daily.

Mike often grabs lunch with a partner or attends a networking event. Everybody loves hanging with Mike.

Taylor is probably out and about buying props and wardrobe for an upcoming production.

Parker and Grayson are probably tinkering with our camera gear and testing out new rigs.

Talmage, Miguel, and Nate are most likely talking about storytelling techniques and how to better market their clients podcasts.

Danny is definitely in the middle of cracking a joke while giving someone a tour of the studio spaces.

Austin and Owen are probably talking about the latest Christopher Nolan film or Apple’s newest product.

And me? Well, I am usually bouncing around between it all, but more likely than not, I’ll probably be scheming up the next FilmLaab branded campaign.

We. Love. What. We. Do.

And even more than that, we love who we do it with: our team, our partners, our clients, our community, our friends… You are all part of what makes our days of building FilmLaab an ever-evolving adventure.

So, if you’re in the area and want to be part of what our next day consists of… come on by!

Just To Remind You We Are Good At What We Do… šŸŽ¬
